Forum Post: RE: Activation Problem

Hi fruity (and all) many thanks for taking the time to reply. Apologies - finally got around for another try. For context, I am a keen amatuer networker who last used smoothwall with great success about 10 year ago.... For those who look this error up my mistake was simple - I had the following config: DSL modem -> XG Wan -> XG Lan -> Switch -> Asus Router (with WIFI) I was expecting XG to pick up DNS from the ISP by using "Basic Config". This did not work! So I have connected both XG WAN and LAN ports to the switch, and it activated straight away. Now - I am looking to configure this in Bridge Mode, which I believe should be either: 1) Modem -> Asus Router (with WIFI) -> XG WAN -> XG LAN -> Switch 2) Modem -> XG WAN -> XG LAN -> Asus Router (with WIFI) -> Switch 1) looks like it would leave wireless clients exposed 2) didn't work see attempt above only using Basic Settings (realise now how thick that was, no ISP username, PPOE settings etc) but looks like the "logical" order of devices to filter all traffic. So my next questions are: 1) or 2) above? If 1) will wireless clients bypass the firewall? If 2) now it's all activated can I just configure bridge mode as I am (both LAN and WAN into the switch), redo the cabling and then restart (no crossovers, just standard patch cables)? Many thanks in advance
